What kid hasn’t been afraid of a monster in their closet? Well us parents know what the real monster is. A big kiddie mess! But with a little time and effort you will be able to improve a kids closet storage space, and maybe even make so a monster can’t hide in there!
The key is to clean it all out so you can begin fresh. I’m sure the little one will want to help, but that might turn it into an all day event. Take everything out of the closet and take time to access what is there.
Toys. Lots of toys. See which ones are broken. If they are broken they should be thrown out due to safety issues. Are there toys they no longer play with? One idea might be to box them up and store them in the attic or garage. I was amazed how many times I did this with my kids and after a few weeks would take the toys out and the kids would “rediscover” them. It was certainly cheaper than going out and buying new toys.
The typical kids closet isn’t designed for kids in mind. With a single rod way above their heads and a shelf way way up there, kids won’t be able to use them. You should install closet rods that are more in scale with your children. Doing so will make the closet more organized plus it will teach them to clean up after themselves. Perhaps you could get a kids closet organizer to make it easier. They can learn how to hang up their coats and clothes like mommy and daddy. It’s worth a shot, right?
Clear storage bin should be used for toy storage on the floor. Depending on your children, these storage bins can be label for different types of toys. One bin can be for sports equipment while another could be used for board games. Still another could be used for storing dolls and such. Take the time to see what toys are there and see the easiest way to organize them for your child. You should really look into kids bedroom furniture closets.
Depending on the size of the room, you could move a small dresser into the closet to give them more play space in the room. To make it fun for your kids and of course to help you out, you can color code the drawers. You can even turn it into a game with them! This way your little helpers can help you when putting their laundry away. You can also use the color code system when storing toys too.
By doing this little things, you can increase your kid’s closet storage.
