Shelves come in a wide variety. Before settling on a specific type, you need to get an overview of all the options. Often picking one type is not ideal; instead you should go for a combination.
Standard Shelves
When referring to standard shelves, what is meant are shelves covering the entire piece of furniture. An example could be a standard bookcase. These kinds of shelves maximize storage capacity and are practical for storing large items.
The downside is that they can look boring and monotonous.
Cube Shelves
Cube shelves can create an interesting break up of your furniture. It is possible to avoid the monotonous look of standard shelves, especially if the furniture utilizes many cubes in various sizes.
The downside to cube shelves storage is that breaking the storage unit up in cubes takes a way a bit of storage capacity. If the cubes are too small it can also make it impossible to store larger items.
Floating Shelves
While standard shelves and cube shelves require a frame, floating shelves can be hung on the walls without any frame at all. This makes them very practical for adding additional storage capacity and for decorating purposes.
If you have chosen a bookcase with standard shelves, adding a few floating shelves to the room can make it look more interesting. If you have chosen a bookcase or storage unit using cubic shelves, floating shelves can add storage capacity and might offer a place to store larger items that doesn’t fit in the cubes.
Combining Different Types of Shelves
It is often the best solution to combine different types of shelves. When you do, keep in mind that the color and the material of the shelves should match. Often picking modern steel and glass floating shelves to combine with an old-fashioned bookcase made of dark wood will give a confusing look. When decorating and picking storage shelves, always think of the room as a whole. Personally, I’m a fan of cube storage.

How to Use Plastic Storage Drawers
There is a significant tendency for people, who have lived in their home long enough, to run out of storage space. This happens because most of us keep buying new stuff, but we rarely take the time and effort to increase our storage capacity.
Well, if you are running out of room, one great way to increase how much you can store is to use plastic storage drawers. They are cheap, practical, and come in a number of shapes and sizes. The only drawback might be that some won’t consider them stylish.
Use the Space under Your Bed
A very practical first step in increasing your storage space is to place plastic storage drawers on wheels under your bed. This space will not be used in any other way, so you increase storage capacity at no cost. If you use the wheeled variety of plastic storage drawers, getting a hold of what you store under the bed is a breeze. An additional tip is to use clear plastic, so it is easy to identify what is in the drawers.
Drawers for Your Closet
You can also utilize plastic drawers in your closet. For this you need the shelves that will stand up. Again, you can choose clear plastic, making it easy to locate your stuff. This will also make the plastic drawers appear hidden, while you still enjoy their functionality and ability to keep things organized.
A Number of Possibilities
Plastic storage drawers can be used in numerous locations, under the bed and in your closets are just two options.
Plastic is weather resistant, so you can easily use the drawers to store things in your garage. Inside, you can place the boxes on shelves and why not use the space under your couch?
Increasing storage capacity with plastic drawers is easy, cheap, and only limited by your imagination. If you don’t like the look of them, you can still use the options where the drawers will be hidden. If you get started now, next time you go shopping you won’t have to worry about where to put your stuff!
